The focus of the Cheung lab at HKUST is to understand how stem cell function changes during organismal ageing. The increased lifespan of the population in developed countries poses a number of issues such as health care and social assistance for the elderly population. The Cheung lab will utilize the fund received from the Croucher foundation to understand the process of ageing with the long term goal of improving health and longevity in modern society. In particular, the Cheung laboratory will use this award to investigate how epigenetic regulation plays a role in altering the molecular pathways during ageing.
